If in the trial of 1936 the state was prosecuting actual former opposition, in 1937 and 1938 the Politburo appeared to be devouring itself. Neither Pyatakov, Radek, Rykov, Bukharin, Yagoda nor Tomsky had objected or opposed what was happening in the country.
This section will attempt to prove that the continuation of the Trials was the result of an escalation of inter party disputes, namely the attempt one faction to oust the other in front of Stalin. |
